Roel de Veer launches premium men's clothing brand No Excess from his office in Amsterdam South. Back in the day, it was all about 'living large'. But de Veer aims for the opposite, he wants a brand that appeals to down- to-earth men; men who may like excess in some areas of their life, but not in the way they dress. His choice of name reflects this - No Excess - emphasising an appreciation for comfortable, high-quality clothes and a down-to-earth attitude.
A few years after the launch, with No Excess selling well, De Veer decides to expand his team to four colleagues who are responsible for all buying, selling and shipping.
FIRST SALES IN GERMANY
We attend the largest European fashion fair in Cologne and word soon gets around about our No Excess printed shirts. The major German retailers rush to the fair to buy our special ‘Druckhemden’. We sell hundreds of thousands of items in the next few weeks as retail chains clamour for No Excess products. Our retail network grows rapidly and sales skyrocket when we extend our services with private labels.
LAUNCH OF THE ‘NOIZE’ LABEL
We decide to jump into the niche for low to mid-level priced men’s clothing and create a second brand, called NOIZE, catered to this market. It’s a success from the start. In the first season alone, we sell 90.000 NOIZE jackets.
BRAND NEW HEADQUARTERS
We outgrow our office in Hoofddorp and relocate to brand new headquarters in Lijnden. The new location offers more office space, well-appointed showrooms and a warehouse all of our own.
REPOSITIONING THE BRAND
With the fashion market undergoing rapid change, the management team decides to reposition the brand. We super charge quality levels and fine tune our distribution strategy. We decide to invest in outstanding sales people and raise the bar on standards across the company. We play with our style to achieve a more timeless design. All our changes are for the better, and in following years our distribution networks grows fast. We expand No Excess across borders and enjoy working with distributors and importers all over Europe.
After many years of steady growth in the Dutch market, we build our investments in the German market. We open seven German showrooms and expand our sales team. The strategy is successful: we meet our targets and No Excess men's clothing is sold at some of the best German retail stores.
NEW OFFICE SPACE IN A LEAFY PART OF AMSTERDAM
The No Excess online store, launched in 2016, enjoys impressive sales and popularity levels. With the steady growth of the company, we decide to search again for better premises. We move to a new office space in a beautiful leafy part of Amsterdam. There’s more space for distribution, more work space and a 300 sqm. showroom. Our new headquarters are surrounded by water and a large garden. It’s a perfect place to operate from and to welcome our guests from all over Europe.
Because of all that is happening in the world there`s also an uncertain atmosphere in the fashion industry. Nevertheless, the No Excess Group has persevered with its plans to launch a new brand with positivity and determination. The result is the launch of QUBZ, a fresh new men's clothing label that stands for optimism, positivity and strength. We believe positivity is a mindset — you choose the world you see. We want your No Excess clothing to remain beautiful and comfortable for as long as possible. Therefore, we have listed some tips on how to best maintain our items. Additionally, you will find all specific information on the care label in our clothing. Many of our items are a mix of different materials, so always check the label before washing.
At No Excess, we believe that everyone and everything should be treated equally and fairly. Therefore, we like to do our bit for the environment and fair working conditions. However, we cannot do this alone and therefore we are pleased to share that we are a member of the Business Social Compliance Initiative (amfori BSCI). Together with 2400 other organizations based in 40 countries, the aim of amfori BSCI is to improve the conditions for employees in terms of safety, health, and salary. Besides they focus on making working processes as sustainable as possible as well.
